JAMES WILLIAM ELLIS
Letter.
My grandparents, James William Ellis and Rachael Asenith (McSpadden) Ellis were married and lived a number of years in Lebanon, Wilson County, TN. They went to Collin County, TX after 1875 and were there for the 1880 census.... My father, Rufus Lee Ellis, was born in Van Alstyne, TX in February 1882/83. Children at home in 1880 census: Sally, James William Jr., Thomas Porter, Walter M.
Sally married Horace Young ca 1880 in Weston. I believe they lived in the Bowie and Ringgold, TX area...
James William Jr. is my elusive uncle. He has been in a different location every census year. He was born in May, 1863 and married Martha (Milly) Neeley, born February, 1867. They married 27 May 1880 in Weston, Collin County, TX and probably remained in that area a few years. I believe they had at least 2 children while living in Texas. Mabel was born ca 1883.
They next had two daughters born in Arkansas; Florence in 1884 and Etta in 1886; possibly a son, Jesse, born in 1888....
I found them living in the Choctaw Nation, I. T. in 1900. Mabel was not living at home on that census. She married Alton L. Ryan ca 1898/1900....
I found Alton and Mabel (Ellis) Ryan on 1920 census in Mountain Park, Kiowa County, OK. Census showed 3 children born in Texas as well as Mabel and Alton Ryan. Eldest child at home was born in 1905, so they could have had one or two prior to that time.
James William Ellis, Jr., widowed father-in-law age 61, was living in home with Mabel and Alton Ryan.
I would like to find marriage date for Thomas Porter Ellis who married Addie (?) ca 1880 in Collin County, TX. [Thomas Porter Ellis married Addie Phillips, Sept 5, 1893, Vol 9, p 51]
e-mail
James William Ellis, Jr. was born 23 February 1863 in Tennessee and died 4 December 1884 in Texas. He is buried in Chambersville Cemetery and his marker is engraved as J. W. Ellis with the dates. He may have been living in Van Alstyne at the time of his death. James was only 21 years old. [Since this one died in 1884, he must be a different James William Ellis, Jr. than the one mentioned earlier.]
